partyStrands is an interactive service for party organizers, bars, clubs and DJs, that utilizes mobile phones, digital music and screens, and offers partygoers a new and fresh way to have fun.

There is more… Partygoers can choose the music by using their cellphones, and also influence the night’s music. If partygoer Bill sends a text message requesting Nirvana and Trevor requests Green Day, not only will the music from these two bands be played, but the rest of the music will be automatically selected to appeal to Nirvana and Green Day fans. The music is chosen from the bar’s music library or a pre-selected playlist, and the song and album art are displayed on the screen, together with the names of the partygoers influencing the song.Some DJs or venues want to decide what music they play and when. They can disable the social programming tool and have full control. In this case, partyStrands displays the album art and song name on the screen. If partygoers join as members of an online community (Myspace, MyStrands, Last.fm), the music will be played based on their music tastes as reflected by their online profiles. Also, their profile pictures or avatars will be displayed together with the text messages they send.
The day after, partyStrands helps you remember what happened last night; it automatically creates a web site for each new venue, where users can go and see the text messages, photos, partygoers, and the playlist, from last night’s party. All this information is updated real-time to the website and mobile website.

partyStrands allows you to join in on the party where your friends are even though you are somewhere else. Imagine tonight you stay at home, you can partake in the party from your room and interact with your friends at the party, by sending messages and pictures, all from MyStrands.com or m.MyStrands.com. Of course, you can read, see, and “hear” what they are doing and the music that is being played.

If you are the party host, you are already familiar with the party control.
Introducing a new mashup from the MyStrands labs page, allowing you to play the tracks from any MyStrands playlist in Rhapsody’s web player. This is achieved by combining our OpenStrands API with Rhapsody’s Web Services SDK. Start by entering a MyStrands screen name to get a list of playlsits created by that member. Then you can click to create a link to Rhapsody for the playlist of your choice. After generating the link, you not only can listen to the playlist at Rhapsody, but you can add the link to your MyStrands journal (see example), Webpage, or blog!
Note that Rhapsody’s web player is available to everyone, though limited to 25 tracks a month for non-subscribers. Those new to their site will have to follow some brief instructions before playing their initial tracks.

The MyStrands recommender system is built on a highly complex network of music relationships. We do our best to sweep a lot of this complexity “under the rug”, so that you can get the best recommendation with a minimum of fuss. However, we think this music network stuff is really interesting, and have been hard at work coming up with new ways of analyzing, visualizing, and leveraging the information in our system. To that end, we’d like to announce Recommendation Mapping. Using this system, you can submit one of your playlists, and “visualize” the playlist and recommendations that are returned from our system. The closer the songs are on the map, the more similar these songs are according to our community listening behavior. You can browse through the map, check out the songs, and listen to some song previews. If you have any questions or comments, we’d love to hear feedback!

Guests walk into a bar and can instantly influence the music just by sending a text message to a short code number provided on the TV in the bar. In addition to joining the party via SMS guests can also send text to the screen in the bar from their cell phones. If that wasn’t enough, soon partygoers will be able to send picture messages to the screen and send text messages to other partygoers in the party.
