Win Tickets to the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Returning to one of the most hallowed sites in the sport, the 2009 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will take place at Hayward Field, site of the ‘72, ‘76, ‘80, and the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Eugene has long been dubbed “Track Town, USA” for its rich track and field history and the community’s overwhelming appreciation of the sport, and Strands has 20 tickets to give away.
The top winner will receive 1 pair (2 passes) of All-Session passes, good for all days and all events of the 2009 USATF Track & Field Championships. Four runners-up will each win 3 Individual Session passes, good for all events for 1 day each (date of passes TBD).
To enter to win, simply leave a comment on this post and include your Strands.com Username. For extra style points, add your favorite running quote or include a link to your favorite running video on the internet. Winners will be chosen at random from the comments below, and all winners will be announced by June 24th.
For more information about the event, please see the USATF event website.

“The idea of losing the three at Hayward Field and the idea of losing my specialty to someone who wasn’t running his specialty. Mostly, the idea of losing in front of my people. They haven’t forgotten about me.” -Steve Prefontaine, when asked by a reporter how he managed to muster up enough strength on the last 200 to catch Frank Shorter by .6 of a second and establish a new American 3 mile record at 12:51.4.

“You are all Champions in your own way. That doesn’t mean you have to be number 1 or be the best. Just do your best. If you aren’t first, then make those people ahead of you break records by pushing them with your personal best. Consider for a moment what we achieve from athletics – the sheer fun of competing – the building of a healthy and alert mind and body – stamina, courage, perseverance, dedication, commitment, selflessness and most importantly, the will to excel.”unknown

My favorite video can be found on Lets Run.com. It is of Jenny “B” racing the 1500 at Hayward Field. My husband and I went to the Olympic Trials for the whole time frame and didn’t miss a single race. We loved it. It would be awesome to get tickets to the Championships.

“The thing is, everybody wants to be a winner. And when you’re psyched up, you’re willing to make any sacrifice. After a great workout, you’ll happily go hit the weight room, or add extra miles, or eat spinach and broccoli. But what will you do when you’re feeling like crap, or all your friends are going out, or it’s pouring rain, or you’re running poorly? To keep striving over the course of years, you need to smooth out the natural highs and lows of your desire, so that you have a constant and unrelenting force that drives you off the sofa and out to run. Every day. Twice.”

Favorite Quote (from OAR): “There was no refuge in injury, his body could not be injured in this way. There was no refuge in mercy, there was nothing to forgive, no one to issue dispensation. And at last he saw: There was no refuge in cowardice, because he was not afraid. There was no alternative, it just had to be done.”

Favorite questions we’ve all been asked a thousand times:
How fast do you run a mile?
Have you ever run a marathon?
How many runners were in the race?
