Thanks BL3RIB for your support!

On March 23, 2005, MyStrands was awarded a grant for $30,000 by the Benton, Linn, Lincoln, and Lane Regional Investment Board (BL3RIB). The funding was provided to assist MyStrands (a very young start-up) in filling ten new positions in its Corvallis office.

At the time the grant was awarded, MyStrands had only nine full-time employees in its downtown Corvallis headquarters, and the support was very much needed.

Today, with nearly 50 employees in Corvallis and over 100 employees worldwide, it is time again to thank BL3RIB for their support!

the highest concentration of mobile startup representatives per square meter in the world

MobileSundayBarcelona was a total success. The Sunday event prior to the Mobile World Congress, organized by Rudy and MyStrands, was packed and according to Martin Sauter:

…it easily had the highest concentration of mobile startup representatives per square meter in the world…

Nice!

MyStrands was announced 3 years ago

Yes, that is correct, already 3 years. MyStrands was introduced to the public on February 9th, 2005, 15 months after the project was started.

The announcement took place both in Barcelona and Madrid. On the morning of the 9th, we held a press conference at the Spanish Scientific Research Council (CSIC) in Madrid.

During the afternoon, at the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (IIIA-CSIC) in Barcelona, there was a public presentation of the project and a round table. With Maite as master of ceremony, the speakers at the event were Alvy, Francesc Godia y Francesc Esteva, Javier, Luis Calvo, Ramón, Revolver, Thomas and of course Francisco.

During the evening and very late into the night we went to celebrate at Café Belgrado with friends and family, along with two amazing bands: Second and Lluis‘ band Distant Voices.

Three years already and strongly committed to the same mission: help people discover new things.

Web 3.0 is about recommendation and personalisation

If web 2.0 could be summarised as interaction, web 3.0 must be about recommendation and personalisation writes Jemima Kiss in a very interesting article on The Guardian.

Sramana Mitra has also covered the topic several times, and she recently described Web 3.0 as a summation of context, community, commerce, content, vertical search and personalization. In the end, new brands able to build deep, rich, highly personalized Web 3.0 user experiences would become Google’s real competition.

Here at MyStrands we obviously believe that the future of the web is personalization. And there is more… this is a slide where we’ve talked about some “Web 3.0″ trends as we see them.

250 mobile bloggers to meet up in Barcelona before Mobile World Congress

Mobile Sunday Barcelona is turning out to be a great meet up for mobile lovers. Organized by Rudy with MyStrands support, it is an unofficial, informal and generally cool and funky gathering of mobile bloggers and their chums. It takes place on Sunday, February 10th, just the day before the Mobile World Congress (fka 3GSM) starts.

There are already approximately 250 people subscribed to the wiki. To confirm your attendance, simply add your name to the Who? list here. We hope to see you there!!

And don’t forget to check out the Mobile Jam Session on Tuesday and the MyStrands GoMo News Blender on Wednesday, also during the week of the Mobile World Congress :) .
