There’s no doubt that the 8th TechCrunch Party in New York is going to be fun. It’ll be your chance to “ping the jukebox” with a text message. With partyStrands, music will not be programmed by just one person, it will be programmed by all those who “join the party”. partyStrands, a social programming tool, will play the music based on everybody’s tastes.partyStrands will start the music with one song that Mike gets to choose as the seed for playing similar songs throughout the evening. This profile will change as other partygoers start to join with their favorite artists. TechCrunch partygoers who want to join will be able to influence the music by sending an SMS containing an alias + favorite artist. As more people join in, the sequence of the songs will be influenced by the collective tastes in music of the people who join the party that very evening.

partyStrands runs on one screen or more and it shows the current song and album art, which partygoers are influencing the song and the messages that the partygoers send via text message. MyStrands members have their avatar show up on the display when they sign in and their music profile begins to influence the music of the party.

As for those who do not get the chance to join the 8th TechCrunch party: the playlist, partygoers, and sms will go real time to the party webpage (to be announced later) which can be visited during or post party.

Much more than music
The partyStrands screens display the text messages and photos sent by partygoers, and several other innovative features such as cool animations targeted to the audience, and an audience voting platform, just to name a few of the features. Many of you know probably a bit about the jukebox and it’s famous models like the Wurlitzer, but how about the real history of the jukebox? Travis Jovais got it all together in his problem statement for his Senior Design Project called The Travelitzer last year.

“The life of the jukebox is not yet over. Even seventy years after the first amplified machine was produced, jukeboxes are located in neighborhoods throughout North America in various taverns, clubs, and diners. If these machines are to stick around, and not to be only found in antique stores and magazines, they must evolve to adapt in the computerized world that surrounds them today.”

partyStrands will be presented at the next Mobile Monday New York meeting on October 30th. Justin Oberman from MoPocket.com and a partyStrands affiliate will present the partyStrands application and Jane (Jae Jong) Kwak will present the MyStrands Mobile application(s) in a session on “Innovative Mobile Content” together with Jason Cirillo from Robotube Games, Larry Gardner from CyberExtruder and Sanji Fernando from Nokia Ventures (on WidSets).

The event will be held on Monday, October 30th (7-9 PM) at Samsung Experience Center, Time Warner Center – Shops at Columbus Circle. For more details, check Mobile Monday New York website. The event is FREE for everyone, you just need to RVSP here (do it asap in order to be sure you’ll get in!)
